Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a test for partners in committed relationships who enjoy horror films: Settle in with your significant other and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like conventional physical horror, but beneath Together lies a deep contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together represents the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have been together for ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the actors contribute a special spark to their characters, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The story begins when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the rural area for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches end. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and the protagonists discover an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity starts to affect the pair. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a slow burn of scares, weaving in elements of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes amidst something horrific). Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and delivers them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and removed from his network of friends. He dreads the notion of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is amplified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect is that he avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for one another. They still laugh together, offer support, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these concerns of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for staying single. On the other hand, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your partner and state, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu now.
